Before you begin you'll have to do some assembly but it's relatively easy to follow anyway and won't take more than few minutes. Anyhow, to begin with, the noise levels aren't that high and are acceptable + the suction is pretty decent but don't expect the best of suctions out there either. The foot on/off switch might need a bit getting used to, for some, but once you're familiar with it... I think it's pretty efficient.

However because of the low price the outfit seems to be like made out of cheap plastic materials so try not to let it fall from high grounds :). The vacuum cleaner is easy to use (lift, carry around, etc) thanks to the weight and you can use the provided tools for cleaning upper areas and other subtle materials such as furniture as well.

It has a low profile thus can be used to clean under beds and other "troublesome" places too. The built in clean-filter indicator which notifies you when it's time to clean the filter is a very useful feature worth mentioning. The dirt cup can be easily emptied without a hassle and includes a soft bumper for protecting against scratches.

So as an ending note, if you're looking for a bit of a cheap, easy to use, multifloor ready vacuum cleaner and can cope with the fact that the suctions or the performance in general is not superior but "decent", well then for its asking price the Hoover Sprint QuickVac UH20040 upright is a pretty decent vac nonetheless.  

Miele S5381 Leo Canister

Miele S5381 Leo is another German made canister vacuum cleaner that has a powerful built in motor, durable outfit ... yet as always with Miele.. it's pretty quiet. A longer wire cord (more later), uses vacuum bags, smoother/bigger wheels for ease maneuverability, HEPA filter, variable speeds... Leo can be used on both medium to high pile carpets, bare floors and rugs as well.

Without changing the nozzle, you can go directly from carpets/rugs to bare floors with S5381 because of the versatile parquet twister brush. It features the swivel feature (360 degrees) and has a low profile thus glides under furniture without much of a hassle. All the attachments are kept on board, so, easily accessible. The wire cord as mentioned may not be the longest, but it is pretty much ahead of the standard 25ft. So no complaints there (for most of us at least).

It uses Miele made vacuum bags which instantly seal while changing. If you have allergies to dust.. then always try to go for a vac that uses bags (high quality/sealing ones) because they're better than the bagged counterparts (most of the time anyway). The telescopic wand has adjustable heights which can be set according to your preference.

If you have a lot of deep pile carpets then you can purchase an additional power nozzle but for most I don't think it's necessary because the parquet brush works amazingly well by removing things such as conventional dust to pet hair, etc nonetheless.For its power, as mentioned before it's pretty quiet + light in weight as well.

So, if you want a powerful canister vac for cleaning all sorts of floor types (including both upper and below...) with professional looking results afterwards, which is built to last years into the future without losing its abilities, then Miele S5381 Leo is for you. But remember, this is not cheap, but with its impressive results, you won't be disappointed at the end either.

SEBO 9807AM Felix Onyx

As always with SEBO products, this vac comes with really powerful suctions. The power-head, nozzle cleans carpets really well (including both dust and pet hair etc). But when moving into bare floor for example, make sure to turn off the brush-roll to avoid it making any scratches (such as wood, hardwood or tiles for instance). And don't be afraid, it's made-out for using on subtle floors and cleans really well (as good as on carpets) nonetheless.

The noise levels are also pretty low which is quite impressive when considering the power of the vac as well. Not only on carpets or hard floors but thanks to the attachments etc it can be used to clean other subtle materials such as curtains etc too. The dust bag is very easy to remove and can be highly recommended if you have allergies to dust.

But remember for all these features there is a certain price-tag that you have to bear with, as always. So if you're willing to pay its price then the SEBO 9807AM Felix Onyx is a kind of a vacuum cleaner that is going to last at least 15-20 years into future quite easily. Although not a self propelled one still it's very easy to use and cleans carpets amazingly well. There is a separate power-head for the carpets (has to purchase separately) but even without it, it works really well!. The vac has such a low profile thus fits under furniture, beds etc easily too. The 4.5 kg of weight makes it so easy to use (even if you have to carry around lifting, frequently). You can use it on bare floors too and the results are just like with the carpets... impressive!.

Not just dust but starting with food spills to troublesome pet hair... it just suck 'em all in. As mentioned before... then noise levels are very low. If you want a quiet vac, then 9806AM is among the best of its kind. If you have a lot of deep pile carpets then you should consider a commercial carpet cleaner (upright would be better) but for cleaning medium-short pile carpets/rugs to a lot of bare floors ... the 9579AM is one of the best!. The suction is really powerful but the noise levels are one of the lowest of all (honest compliment). It's pretty easy to carry around as well (even by lifting). If you have to carry around a vac from one floor to the next, then the lightweight most definitely come in handy.

The vacuum bag has a larger capacity for a canister and well sealed too. They're really easy to remove/insert but most importantly, if you have allergies to dust, then a bagged vacuum is the best option. The only negative thing about it is the shorter wire cord. Although when combined with the telescopic handle, it adds pretty good lengths... but a bit longer (5-10ft more) wire cord would've been really handy.

Anyhow, apart from the wire-cord "issue", if you're willing to pay its price then the Sebo 9679AM is an excellent canister vac nonetheless.

ArmorAll AA255 Wet/Dry Vacuum Cleaner

ArmorAll AA255 is a lightweight wet/dry vac that lets you clean both solids and liquids from hard to reach places like inside your vehicles, etc with ease. Although it does not have massive suctions, but for its purpose, it is quite handy nonetheless.

It has excellent suctions for its size and caliber, and when combined with the different types of nozzles they give you, you really can't a miss spot inside your vehicle with this vac!. Not just dust and liquids, because of the suctions it even removes a decent amount of pet hair as well!. The sharp nozzle is very handy while cleaning corners and other smaller places inside cars too.

Although the wire cord is a bit short. But for what it's made for... it is pretty much the standard length, I guess. The 3 kg of weight makes it highly portable too. As always with Miele, this is a very quiet vac and it has a little wight thus even if you have to carry it around quite a lot, it's just perfect for that as well. Another thing is, when moving from carpets to hard floors you don't have to change the nozzle. The default nozzle is especially designed to work extremely well on low/deep-pile carpets and rugs + hard floors too, but there is a dedicated attachment for bare floors which you should use to get the best results. Thanks to the superior suction and the nozzle, it's also an excellent pet hair remover as well.

The nozzle has moderate widths thus it easily fits in between tight or hard to reach places and when combined with the upholstery nozzle for instance, it does remove a lot of dust/pet hair from subtle places like furniture too!. The durability is also quite excellent (well, it is a bit pricey...).

So, if you want a very powerful/durable canister that makes very little noises but willing to pay its higher price, then the Miele S2120 Delphi is an excellent product. Can be highly recommended for both light-duty and heavy duty jobs.

The LUV400T can be used on both carpets and bare floors and switching between the floors are as easy as switching a button!. Adjusting the height is also pretty easy (foot switch as mentioned) but although not the most light weight vac of all but it cleans really well nonetheless. From deep-pile/low-pile carpets to wood, hardwood, tiles, etc... it comes with superior suctions on all sorts of floors.

The noise levels are quite low when considering its power and the almost 10 meters long wire cord is really super long :). From convention dust/debris to food spills, pet hair, etc it just suck 'em all in!. The dust-can is easy to empty too. Although the weight won't make in any easier if you have to lift and carry around.In that case this may not be the vac for you.

But other than that, if you want to clean a lot of different types of floors/places (mattress, upper areas, etc) and looking for a powerful/durable companion that makes less noises then LG LUV400T is an elegant solution!. A bit pricey as usual... but you'll get what you're paying for, nonetheless!.

All the main switches are located on the gripping section on the handle and switching between different floor types, such as from carpets to bare floors for instance is pretty easy (has built in presets, activated via soft button). There are no attachments available, so other than using the 12 Inch nozzle (which glides under tough places most of the time with ease anyway)... you cannot use it to clean furniture or other areas of your house.

The suction is quite powerful actually and as a result on both carpets and bare floors (tiles, wood, etc) it does remove a lot of dust/pet hair nonetheless!. You can use it on subtle floors such as hardwood without having to afraid of scratches as well. The noise levels are also pretty low which is always welcomed for a vac :). The only negative thing is the bit shorter wire cord. This however depends heavily on the user and you can easily "fix" it using an extension cable anyway.

So, if you want a powerful floor cleaner that performs equally on both carpets and bare floors, comes with easy to use vacuum bags, low noise levels but can bear the somewhat shorter wire cord, then the Electrolux EL5020A Intensity is a really good product nonetheless.

Sanitaire SC3683 Commercial Canister

If you're looking for a canister vac that is easy to use, very powerful (commercial), suits for both carpets and bare floors then you should consider the Sanitaire SC3683. Because of the default nozzle attachment, it is not recommended for deep-pile carpets/rugs but if you have low-pile carpets, hard and bare floors (I mean a lot of them) then this is one of the best!.

As mentioned, for a canister it feels so light and since it comes with a shoulder strap, carrying it around is a breeze too. The SC3683 does an amazing job on both low-pile carpets and rugs by removing both dust/pet hair, but unless you purchase a power-nozzle attachment, it is not recommended for the deep-pile carpets. The results are basically same with the bare floors such as wood and tiles for instance.

The wheels look small but they are smooth. So, when combined with the low weight, it is one of the easiest to use as well. Not only on floors but with the help of the attachments, you can clean upper areas and furniture too. The bag is pretty easy to empty, if you have allergies to dust, then bagged vacs are usually the best choice. The noises levels are slightly higher than some of the other similar products but again, not a big issue.

So if you want a light-weight easy to use canister vac that comes with a reasonable price but can cope with the bit shorter wire cord length, then the Sanitaire SC3683 is a great product that can be highly recommend for anyone with above mentioned needs!.

One of the main key selling points of the 4700D is actually the low price!, sometimes the price tag makes you suspect it being another cheap vac... but it is NOT!. If you're looking for a light-weight floor vacuum cleaner that is easily carry-able by lifting + gives really good results on a lot of different types of floors, then 4700D is an elegant solution. The filter that is included by default is not a HEPA one still it has the ability to filter allergens, etc that the HEPA filter/s remove nonetheless.

It cleans carpets really well, including both dust and those troublesome pet hair. Although I wouldn't recommend it for cleaning lots of deep-pile carpets/rugs but on low-pile ones... it performs surprisingly well for its price. When "switching" from carpets to wood or tiles for instance, it adjusts itself automatically, so you don't have to do anything other than keep pushing. And with the help of the provided tools, not only floors but it can be used to clean upper areas as well.

The durability is not bad, but due to its low price, it does "smell" a little "cheap plastic" :). The wire cord length is pretty decent but if you have a larger area to clean sometimes you might need a help of an extension cable (not a big issue, since it is easily fix-able). So, if you want to spend a very little but want a highly versatile, surprisingly powerful vac, then the Eureka LightSpeed 4700D is one of the very best of its kind!. A highly recommended product for light and moderate cleaning jobs.

If I had to use a singe word to describe the Metropolitan Professionals ADM-4PNHSF canister... I'd use the word "Power!", because that's what this vac is all about!. The main nozzle has a beater-bar inside which gives one of the best suctions + amazing results even under the most deep-pile carpets and rugs!. From larger debris to huge amounts of pet hair... the monstrous ADM-4PNHSF cleans them all. But, it is loud!. Again when considering the power this has to be accepted... still, it's far from being unbearable. So, not a big concern in my opinion. The nozzle has a moderate height thus fits easily under tight places as well.

When moving to bare floors make sure to use the proper nozzle (bare floor nozzle) if you want to avoid making scratches. And because of its power... the same excellent results can be achieved on bare floors as well. As you can see in the picture, then canister is rather a smaller "version" when comparing with the most other canister models. So, while cleaning a larger area you'd have to empty the bag/s a bit often than usual. Anyway as said before, you can use it on delicate materials such as mattresses or curtains... even on computer screen (including TVs, etc). The telescopic wand does not weigh that much thus it won't create heavy strains on the hands either.

So, if you want one of the most powerful canisters available for thoroughly cleaning carpets/rugs, bare floor and lot of other places, but willing to bear with the slightly higher noises (certainly not that high... just a little bit :) ) then the Metropolitan Professionals ADM-4PNHSF is among the best of its kind without a doubt!.

Although a self-propelled upright vac usually outperforms canister on deep-pile carpets but with a canister that has a power nozzle such as with this "Tangerine", can clean carpets as through as an upright nonetheless. The power nozzle reaches deep down into the carpets and from larger debris such as food spills, etc to subtle (but hard to get rid of) pet hair/dust... this canister does an excellent job!. So if you have lots of carpets... then this is really a powerful  light-weight vac, built exactly for that purpose.

The beater/power-nozzle must be turned off while on hard floors (especially stretchable surfaces such as hardwood for instance). It vacuums the bare floors such as tiles, wood, ceramics really well too. It's not a heavy weight vac, so easy to carry around as well. But as mentioned earlier... the power cord is a bit short. When considering the power, then noise levels are also impressively quite!, which is something very hard to see in a vac these days.

The headlight which is handy while vacuuming darker areas such as under beds for instance. Other places such as upholstery can also be cleaned with the provided upholstery/dusting brush attachment. The swivel features of the nozzle makes it is easy to "navigate" around furniture as well.

Although the manufacture claims it has the ability to clean both carpets and bare floors but in truth, unless you have an especial nozzle (purchased separately - if they have those), for a house with a lot of carpets, this in not a great vac to be honest. But if you have a lot of bare floors (especially wood and tiles), then the Kenmore 24195 is a very good cleaning tool nonetheless. It is very light in weight thus if you have to keep clean several floors or need a vac that is easily portable, then this is highly recommended!.

The brushes in the nozzle is driven by air and removes both dust and pet hair from the floors as well. But under heavy pet hair (especially) "conditions", make sure to clean the nozzle from time to time (usually 5-6 months) otherwise it'll stop rotating. The nozzle is not that wide nor it is small either thus fits around corners or other hard to reach places with ease (+ thanks to the swivel feature). It can do some pretty impressive cleaning jobs under low-pile carpets/rugs too. But on wood or tiles, etc... it just suck 'em really well!.

The wire cord is a bit short as mentioned before, but you can always get some help of an extension in those situations nonetheless. And the automatic cord rewind feature is pretty handy while storing for instance. Anyhow, if you have lots of hard floors (especially wood and tiles or anything similar) to clean and want an easy to use, light-weight canister vac, then the Kenmore Magic Blue 24195 is a really good product.

First of all, it is very very light in weight!, although not the most powerful suctions still, for the price it is pretty good nonetheless. You have to keep pushing the button to keep the motor running, which has both good and bad aspects. For instance, keep pushing a button for longer periods isn't the most enjoyable task in the world, yet it helps to preserve some of the battery (I guess). The noise levels may be slightly higher than some other similar vacs, still not a biggie :).

As said, you can use it to suck-in both dry (removes decent amount of pet hair too) and wet "stuff" such as milk for instance too. Not only on inside house, it is a pretty handy car insider cleaner as well. The battery won't last that long to be honest and being a cheap vac, you can't ask for the best of everything either.

Anyway, if you're looking for a light duty easy to use hand-held vac to clean small messes such as food spills, dust/debris and needs it to has a very cheaper price, then the Hoover S1120 Wet/Dry vac is actually a pretty good product!.

The Helix 47R51 does not lack any suction power either!. It is really powerful for its caliber and cleans both dust and pet hair really well as a result. You can use the rubber nozzle attachment where the standard nozzle doesn't fit (you know, hard to reach places, etc) as well. Although it can get a bit hot, but again not a big concern and quite normal for a vac anyway. The wire cord length is also pretty decent. The dust cup is large in comparison with other similar hand-held models and easy to empty too.

One annoying thing though, the "cleaned" air is driven out of the vac in a way that, sometimes it blows away some of the dust on the very floors that you want to clean. Although this again not a huge concern and as a quick fix you can try changing the angle while approaching floors or surfaces for instance. Anyway, it's a good thing that it is powered directly through a wire rather than a battery, since even under the most powerful batteries, these vacs would only last about 10-15 minutes (20 at max) most of the time.

The handle is ergonomic and comfortable as well. The noises are low in comparison with the power it delivers, which is always welcomed :). So, for a very cheaper price, if you want a hand-held vac that has excellent suctions + enables you to easily clean hard to reach places (including inside vehicles) with pretty good results afterward, then I highly recommend the Bissell Cleanview Helix 47R51.

If you have a lot of  bare floors filled with dust and pet hair and looking for a light weight vac that can be used with less efforts + a price-tag that is impressively lower, then Bissell FeatherWeight 3106B holds the answer!.

Although you can use it on carpets as well, but when considering the physical aspects of the vac, I gotta say, you'd better off using it on bare floors rather than thick carpets or rugs in general.

You can use it on carpets or rugs if you like, but it simply don't have the suction power to remove all of the dust and the pet hair nonetheless. Although on low pile carpets you may get slightly better results, still not the best for that job anyway. It has roller bars in the nozzle but you can use it on wood or hardwood type subtle materials without having to worry about scratches either. Although it is not as powerful as some of the more pricier vac... still on bare floors it pulls out impressive amounts of pet hair and dust, which is again a bit of a surprise when considering its size.

The dust-cup is easy to empty and even though it has a smaller capacity, won't get filled-up that often either. It is really easy to use (mainly due to the weight) and when combined with the upholstery tool + the size of the nozzle, it easily fits under almost all tight places such as under beds for instance. Since you can "create" a hand-held of out the main unit, it is pretty handy for cleaning on couch or other upper places which is an added advantage for the user as well.

As said, the wire cord is not that long, so sometimes you'll have to use an extension cord for that, anyway, for a very little price, if you have a lot of bare floors and okay with the moderate suctions that this vac brings, then the Bissell FeatherWeight 3106B is a bargain :). Good vac, but can only be recommended for light duty job.

It comes with a beater bar that is especially designed to reach deep down in carpets while cleaning. And because of the power of the beater-bar, you can clean deep pile carpets with very little efforts in comparison with others (even though it is not a self-propelled vac, pretty impressive!) and make sure to adjust the height according to the surface as well. When moving from carpets to bare floors (wood and hardwood for instance), you must turn off the beater-brushes, otherwise, they can damage subtle floors such as hardwood for instance.

Make no mistakes, it is really powerful, but does make few noises nonetheless. But again, the noises are quite bearable, so not a big concern anyway. With the help of the extension hose (air-powered hand tool) you can clean a lot of pet hair from subtle materials such as couch or other places as well. The bags are really easy to remove/insert, well sealed, and is highly recommended if you have allergies.

Best Vacuum for Hardwood Floors

You have to be very careful while cleaning hardwood floors, because unlike many other floors, hardwood in general is a very subtle + a expensive floor type and if you use the wrong vac on hardwood, then they can do some heavy damages!. So let's talk about few of the things that you have to consider when searching for the best vacuum for hardwood floors.

How to choose??...

The nozzle

This is very important. In fact, it is THE most important factor that you should consider first. Unless you have a lot of hardwood floors and already have a vac that is multi-floor/general vac... you don't have to throw it away to clean your wood floors. There is an especial nozzle for these floors called, a hardwood nozzle, which is especially built to clean subtle hardwood surfaces without making any scratches.

Now with a canister, if by default the vac does not have this type of a nozzle, most of the time you should be able to purchase it separately through the manufacture. Or, if you have an upright with an extension hose that can be used to remove and use different types of nozzle, again, you can look for the appropriate nozzle before throwing away the whole unit and buying a dedicated one.

But, if you have a lot of hardwood or wood floors then it is recommended to go for a vac that is especially built for that purpose.

The Wheels

Other than the hand-held or back-pack vacs, all the other canister and uprights come with wheels for smoother movements. Make sure they're covered with rubber outer surface or something that is gentle enough that won't make any scratches.

Don't use those commercial carpet cleaners!

Commercial or heavy duty dedicated carpet cleaners come with a power nozzle that contains a beater-bar that is especially designed to deep clean carpets and are very dangerous to hardwood (hard bristles, etc). Now, there are few vacs that are "compatible" with wood or hardwood due to their ability to change heights and automatically shut-off the "dangerous" beater-bar on those floors, etc.

But, when the brush-rolls shut off, as you can guess, most of the time it hurts the overall cleaning ability of the vac. Although there are few models that doesn't actually turn off the brushrolls, and rely on the height adjustments while on hardwood. They are not that risky actually, but again, if you have a lot of hardwood, you're always better off with a dedicated vac. Anyway, do not use those power nozzles on your hardwood floors!.

Both dust and pet hair

Not only dust, but if you have a lot of pets, then you need the vac to be able to remove all those pet hair as well. So, make sure the nozzle can do both these tasks at the same time, otherwise, you'll have to use a nozzle for removing dust and another to remove pet hair which, not to say much, will consume a lot of time while cleaning a larger area.

Stick vac or heavy duty ?

This actually depends on your needs. Although if you want an easily carry-able vac and can cope with the fact that they are only capable of doing light-weight "jobs", then stick vacs can do some impressive cleanings nonetheless. But, for cleaning a lot of hardwood with speed and power and better dust/pet hair removing, I highly recommend going for a heavy duty vac.

Vac or a Steamer?

If you have kids or pets and usually end up "receiving" a lot of food spills, etc on your hardwood floors, then you should consider a steam mop or a steamer in general. Although you cannot use chemicals inside steam mops, you'll have to use a chemical manually (always use a dedicated/certified hardwood cleaning chemicals) on the floors and then mop, if you have tough spots.

Bags or Bag-less? 


This is a common question. If you have allergies to dust/pet hair, etc... then a bagged vacuum is the best choices since it helps to minimize the actual contact between the user and the dust. They're also better sealed as well. But, remember, there are newer bag-less models that performs as well as the bagged ones nonetheless.
