Good and Bad Aspects of a Canister Vacuum Cleaner

Although vacuum cleaners can be divided into a uprights, canisters, robotics, central, stick, etc... sometimes because of these "multiple choices" + wrongly rendered information, the consumer would feel reluctant when it comes to purchasing. So I'll be concentrating on the canister models in this article to help you have a better understanding about them which should make it easy for you to "grab" the one that suits your needs the most.

Pros

*. Now unlike the upright ones with a canister almost all the weight will be drifted towards the cart thus usually giving you a very lightweight "stick" for cleaning. As a direct result of this, they usually outperform the uprights when gliding under beds or furniture for instance. So if you have a house packed with furniture, etc then a canister will make your life more easier.

Although keep in mind that the more power you require the move heavier it's gonna get (most of the time). And if the nozzle breaks down you can easily replace or can even use it with a different attachment in comparison with uprights where you're stuck until you fix it.

*. The canisters are easy to seal (less inside dust leak issues, etc) than uprights which also make them a bit quieter too.

Cons

*. Well if you want to deep clean your carpets then lack of things like proper height setting adjustments, harder to push downward (because of the lack of downward weight), etc they aren't the best choice.

*. The cost is a bit higher usually for a canister.

*. When moving from one floor type to the next you'll have to manually attach the proper nozzle tool for better results which can be a bit of a "pain".

*. Some say they are bit harder when it comes to storing. But in my opinion it pretty much depends on the telescopic wand. So this is not a big "con".

And as a final note - in truth whether you should buy an upright or canister heavily depends on your needs. So even if you get all these benefits, you shouldn't never be afraid of uprights or (other models in general) as long as they meet your needs!.

Before going in to detailed good & bad let's have a look at some of the main hardware details first.

The power nozzle vision can be used on a lot of surfaces such as wood, hardwood floors, carpets, rugs, tiles, etc but because of the width and the nozzle characteristics, etc it performs better on tiles and carpets (especially). The best height setting for carpets can vary (depending on low/cut -pile, etc) but usually the #3 settings is recommended. But just go ahead and experiment a little!. Sometimes it can be a bit difficult to push (not a self propelled one) on high-density carpets, but not a big concern.

The width and the low heights of the cleaning head makes it easy to glide under chairs, beds, etc without much difficulties but the shorter wire cord may concern you if you have larger rooms (can always use a cheap extension cord anyway).

So the suctions aren't the most superior but pretty good. The durability of the product is also decent but may not be the best of its abilities either. Anyway if you want a canister with moderate weights that can be used on a lot of different surfaces then the dirt devil vision canister m082750 is a decent product.

*. But if you can spend a little more, then I'd highly recommend this hoover platinum s3875 which is one of the best canisters available.

Bissell CleanAlong 48K2 Vacuum

Bissell clean along 48k2 is a canister vacuum cleaner which is equipped with cyclonic suctions (with variable speeds), longer rewindable power cord and a 12 Amp standard motor. Now when considering the size and features, the overall weight is a bit higher than expected but then again unless you're looking for something like this handheld dyson dc35 multi floor for instance this won't much of a problem.

*. Certified to be used on all types of surfaces - carpets, rugs, hardwood, tiles, upholstery, etc.

*. Uses vacuum bags.

*. Weight is about 10.4 kg which is bit high for a canister vacuum. If you want more lightweight product then consider this bissell zing canister for example.

Dyson City DC26 Multi Floor Vacuum cleaner

Dyson city dc26 is another canister vacuum cleaner from Dyson. This is an ultra lightweight product, which according to the manufacture is suited for smaller houses with limited storing capacity. But the smaller size doesn't mean it's not powerful either. It is packed with the root cyclonic technology + ABS plastic for enhanced durability and the dual cleaning nozzle tool is capable of performing under any type of floors without having to change.

Although these are the most obvious and basic features let's talk some of the other details first...

Main specifications...

*. Has a slimmer but wider cleaning head with carbon fiber brushes (tough but at the same time gentle on sensitive materials) and it specializes in in removing dust from hardwood floors. The swivel makes it easy to navigate around furniture as well. 

*. Bagless. Although the dust bin capacity is very small (0.15 Gallons) but the whole unit is made out to be smaller in size anyway.

*. Has moderate suctions in comparison with more powerful other products but for its size the 160 Air Watts is pretty good.

*. The HEPA filters are lifetime washable ones with mites and allergen blocking as well (filtering at 0.1 micron level).

*. It has few accessories - an articulating hard floor tool, a combination accessory tool, crevice and a stair tool.

*. Wire cord has a length of 5 meters and when added the telescopic wand they both will let you clean an area which is 26 ft + wide which is pretty decent.

*. Even though Dyson claims it to be ultra weight - it weights about 5.4 kg which won't give you any problems at ll but there are lesser ones if you're interested such as this eureka mighty mite 3670 for instance.

*. It has an impressive 5 years of warranty.

User Feedback Section

The compact design is certainly handy which allows you to even use it on limited space areas and the wider + the slimmer nozzle will glide under beds, etc with ease too. The suctions aren't the best in the world but again for its size they are pretty powerful. The dust bin is not that large but (maybe due to the vacuum suctions) doesn't need to be refilled quite often either.

The especial wood floor utility is very useful which performs really well on wood floors but can be used on tiles and other surfaces as well. If you have few different floors to maintain then this will be an ideal solution since carrying it around is one of the easiest things to do. The noise is also moderate.

The only drawback will be the higher price. But when considering the durable ABS plastics and the lots of accessories + the suctions, and the low noise levels, then the Dyson city dc26 small vacuum cleaner is one of the best of its kind. A highly recommended product.

So if you want a floor cleaning utility that is very very powerful but at the same time weights surprisingly low and quite as well then the k3 will impress you without a doubt. The telescopic handle coupled withe the wider looking cleaning path are among other useful features that it packs with.

If you have any health issues (allergies to dust, etc) then this is highly recommended and even have the approval of the British Allergy Foundation. Thanks to the powerful motor, it delivers better suctions than the upright vacuum cleaners and so much easier to use too. The power cord has the auto-rewind feature, so when you're done cleaning, just push a button and it'll suck the wire all by itself.

Although the hose attachment doesn't swivel well sometimes but not a big issue once you get used to it. The cleaning head is capable of removing pet hair as mentioned and you'll see the best results while using on hardwood and carpets.
