Floor Cleaning

Not just floor cleaning but any type of home related maintenance are one of the most irritating and time consuming things that anyone would love to avoid. But avoiding your house cleaning is not the best thing to do since your house is where you'll spend most of your time and keeping a healthy home will keep you healthy as well.

In this guide you'll find few tips for cleaning your house not only by using a commercial floor cleaner but I'll also try to give few tips that can come in handy when used even with simple tools such as a mop or a water bucket in that case.

OK let me start with a question,

1. How often should you clean your floors?. And the answer actually depends on many things. Your kitchen for instance will be one of the most busiest places for both yourself and the dust itself. So the first answer is,

*. It depends on the usage.

*. Secondly depending on your surrounding (if you have open windows and live near a road then I don't have
to explain much ..... you know the rest...)

*. And the third reason - Depending on the type of the dirt/garbage you'll have to do is frequently (more below).

Note - Before starting to do any of these, please always make sure to wear some sort of a glove (a rubber gloves for instance, and shoes with less silks on them, etc...) not only it'll protect you from chemicals but rubber ones especially can prevent dropping things such as fibers/silk, etc on the floors which can be pretty harder to remove afterwards (when doing a waxing for example).

Kitchen Cleaning


But for a place like the kitchen it is advisable to say, "do it frequently". Not only this will make it look better and helps you to feel better but when concerning the dirt and the daily garbage it might even effect your health! if ignored. And when talking about germs and bacteria, you can use a chemical solution (usually a shampoo) which has the ability to kill germs and bacteria and most of them have the ability to work as an air freshener as well (another "popular" kitchen related issue).

But if you're afraid to use chemicals for any reason (if you have small kids for example) then you can use hot water or steam while mopping, which may not be as effective as the chemical cleaning solution but it can do some decent jobs for you.

Hardwood Floor Cleaning

Before going into cleaning, if you have area-rugs or carpets on the hardwood surface, make sure they don't have any rubber materials (helps to keep it stick but...) they can damage the surface in someways (tend to stick to the floor and destroy some of that shine for example). There are especially made carpets and mattress to be used on hardwood which are "hardwood friendly" if interested in purchasing.

*. First sweep the surface thoroughly (a normal but a good quality broom would do it or can use a commercial product such as this hoover sonic sweep cordless ch20000).

*. Then use a vacuum or an especially made hardwood floor cleaner to suck out some of the dirt. If they have especially made out tools (brushes or nozzle attachments), then make sure to use them as well.

*. There are sprays that can be used to get that "shine", but make sure to contact your floor installer and get the proper guidance otherwise the wrong spray can easily damage it. 

*. So if you have your spray -

Then first wax the surface and give few minutes to dry it out. Then apply the polisher but take extra cautions not to let dirt into the floor again (closing windows and doors might help...)

*. Never wear any type of shoes or spiky heels otherwise they'll stick to the ground and can be really difficult to get rid of.

Cleaning Laminate Floors

Laminate floors are easier to clean since unlike the hardwood floors, they don't get "covered" with carpets and rugs, laminated surfaces need frequent cleaning (weekly basis - at lest). And the more often you clean will be better, because if uncleaned for some time and as the dust gets on the surface, then when walkings, etc can easily damage the shine.

*. Again before starting make sure to ready a vacuum cleaner, a mop (dry) and a towel. If you don't have a vacuum, you can still use a broom.

*. So vacuum it first and then follow it with the mop.

*. And thirdly, damp the mop and do some damp cleaning. But again make sure to pick large things (sands, etc) by hand to avoid any damages to the shine.

*. The professionals recommend never to use any type of waxing, vinyl or any Lysol cleaning solutions, etc one this floor type.


Carpet Cleaning Tips

By properly maintaining your carpets, not only it'll add more beauty to your home but also will make it last longer. And again depending on the place and the surroundings the cleaning schedule will change. Use professional carpet cleaning services once in a while (10-18 months) to do a it professionally to get the best out of it.

*. Since it is their nature of the carpets to absorb anything that is liquid.. so as soon as you notice them act quickly and get rid of them otherwise you'll end up countless hours trying to remove stains that can be a real pain. So the first rule - keep a good eye on them and act quickly.

If you have chairs and sofas on the carpets then use rubber bushes or glides to absorb the weight and to minimize the damage.

*. If you have pets around and then they'll always leave their hair on the carpets which are again can be pretty difficult to get rid of. Floor cleaner manufactures have come up with some solutions of their own (nope they're aren't asking to kill your pet .... just kidding).

For instance some of these vacuum cleaners have especially built brush rotations, suctions + nozzle attachments, etc to enhance the process. So if you're going to purchase a vacuum, make sure to look for a vac with especial pet hair removing features.
