Oh they are something special aren't they?... |
*. As a general rule, always place doormats at your doorsteps to prevent the dust from coming into the house. Because of the nature of the surface of a wood floor if sands and grit get on the surface, it can do some real damages to that shine and can "produce" ugly looking scratches/holes.
*. Use the help of a rug -
1. Let's say that you have a sink on a wood floor room, then place a rug underneath the sink to prevent water being absorb into the surface since when water gets on a hardwood floor they tend to be very slippery + reduces the shine and the lifetime as well.
2. Secondly, if you have furniture with sharp legs, etc on the hardwood surfaces, then try to use rubber bushes or carpets underneath them to prevent scratches.
3. Do not glide heavy objects on the surface.
*. A major benefit of using these type of hard floors is that unlike with carpets and rugs, they don't have allergens or related issues since it is made out of wood.
How often you should be cleaning them?
Well this pretty much depends on the dust and the traffic mostly, but again as a general rule try to clean them at least once a week. For this use can use an especially made sweeper, a dry mop, commercial floor cleaner, etc.
How to cope with Spills and stains?
Act as soon as you notice them. Use a damp towel with warm water or if they're really tough, then you might want to consider something like this zep hardwood cleaning chemical for instance (or anything similar).
When using chemicals make sure they are built out to be used on hard floors otherwise it can damage the surface!.
