The height settings is an important aspect if you have lots of carpets to clean (rugs, etc as well). Anyway it can be used on various type of floors too. The dust cup is easy to clean and the HEPA filters have a lifetime warranty period!. Now as a general rule, when using in an environment where you have lots of pet hair, etc you will have clean the filters often than usual. This not only helps to keep the suctions without loosing any but enhances the lifetime of the motor as well.

Make sure to adjust the height according to the surface type if you want the maximum performance out of it. The 12" hose is pretty short and sometimes can be annoying. The cleaning nozzle has some good widths and reasonable height which make it easier to glider under places like cabinets and beds for instance (most of the time!).
