If you have a lot of deep pile carpets then you should consider a commercial carpet cleaner (upright would be better) but for cleaning medium-short pile carpets/rugs to a lot of bare floors ... the 9579AM is one of the best!. The suction is really powerful but the noise levels are one of the lowest of all (honest compliment). It's pretty easy to carry around as well (even by lifting). If you have to carry around a vac from one floor to the next, then the lightweight most definitely come in handy.
The vacuum bag has a larger capacity for a canister and well sealed too. They're really easy to remove/insert but most importantly, if you have allergies to dust, then a bagged vacuum is the best option. The only negative thing about it is the shorter wire cord. Although when combined with the telescopic handle, it adds pretty good lengths... but a bit longer (5-10ft more) wire cord would've been really handy.
Anyhow, apart from the wire-cord "issue", if you're willing to pay its price then the Sebo 9679AM is an excellent canister vac nonetheless.
